Sherry Tross

Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS)

 

 

Sherry Tross is Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS). Previously, she served as Advisor on trade and development issues; matters related to the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), and Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), among others. She also served as principal speechwriter for the Assistant Secretary General. 

From 2003-2005, she served as Director of Business Development at the World Trade Center Miami, providing market intelligence, consulting services, customized training programs for small and medium-sized enterprises and matchmaking opportunities for established businesses. Ms. Tross was also responsible for developing a prototype for a regional trade assistance center adaptable to the unique needs of World Trade Centers in different locations/countries.  

Previously, Ms. Tross served as Program Director for the University of Miami’s North-South Center where she conducted research on trade policy, wrote extensively and organized more than 400 international conferences and training workshops. She was the editor of the North-South Update policy brief, a bi-weekly newsletter that focused primarily on trade, economic and security issues. She also served as security policy liaison with the US Army War College and US Southern Command and was involved in conceptualizing and executing a series of high-level programs on security policy and strategy for senior military personnel from more than 20 countries in North, South and Central America, and the Caribbean.

 Ms. Tross worked as a Research Fellow for the University of Miami’s Caribbean Program from 1992-1994, drafting papers on regional trade agreements and the effects of globalization on small states. She has also provided consulting services for government agencies and private companies.  

Ms. Tross has been a speaker, commentator and rapporteur at public fora on trade, gender, corporate social responsibility and a range of Caribbean issues. She has been a guest lecturer at Miami Dade College and has served as rapporteur for policy programs organized by the Inter-American Development Bank and the American Assembly. In 2003, she served as co-director of the Americas Trade and Sustainable Development Forum which paralleled the VIII FTAA Trade Ministerial in Miami.

 Ms. Tross is a recipient of the National Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Award of Excellence in higher education. She has been a volunteer and served on a number of boards including the Miami Council for International Visitors, the Trade Facilitation Center of the International Trade Consortium of Miami-Dade County, Learn to Read Volunteers of America, and the St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Florida.

 She holds a B.A. in Spanish and Government from Hamilton College, New York and an M.A. in International Relations with a concentration in International Business from the University of Miami.

Ms. Tross is a citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis.
